Jayride is now a happy bubbling 6 month old!
2100+ members in 6 months, with little or no marketing budget, in the very niche field of carpooling is hella impressive we think!
We’d just like to take a second to say THANKS! to everyone who’s signed up as a member and started to make this community what it is.
We love you all!

Bus tickets, limousines, cheap shipping, what next?... Free plane rides!
You might remember
this post where we highlighted some great unexpected uses for Jayride, like
selling bus tickets or
advertising rides in your stretched limousine… Well we’ve got some more interesting ones for you.
Jayride’s member Shuttles wants to help you move your stuff around the country. Inspired by the lengths that people go to shipping around goods bought on Trademe, Shuttles thought he should offer up space in his van when he visits the whanau in Te Awamutu:
“I thought hey, why not advertise “items to carry”. How I came about this was because I surf Trademe and there are a lot of people that ask questions on auctions on how much to ship to so & so … I tried to get in there and say I can ship but then I get hit by Trademe saying this is against the rules … So when I heard about your site on Breakfast well I thought maybe on [Jayride].”
Good on you shuttles! Check out his first listing here, or look out for the next one.
How do you top that? How about a free flight to Whanganui for you and a friend in a 4 seater Cessna 182? Our member Planeride is a commercial pilot who has flown his own plane for over 30 years. Now he flies for his business, sometimes by himself on up to 150 days per year, and is looking for passengers! For free!:
“I have often thought there should be a site for long haul rides in New Zealand eg Wanganui to Auckland etc, I am sure there are plenty of solo drivers who would offer rides. For me as a pilot, I often know a couple of days in advance where I am going (usually from South Taranaki) ie near Wanganui and passengers would be very welcome.”
How good is that! See his listing here, or look out for the next one.

Jayride. Loving kiwis since 2008!
We’ve come a long way since our launch in December last year, and we couldn’t have done it without you, our great kiwi carpoolers! Congratulations for showing New Zealand that sustainable transport really is that easy.
Very soon we’ll be celebrating our 2000th member. In addition to our undying love and affection, we’re going to reward that special person with a wee $50 fuel voucher to spend how they like…
If you’d like to be in to win it, simply register with Jayride here. To find out your member number, share a ride then take a look at the bottom to see your ID. If you don’t share a ride, that’s OK, but you won’t know if you’ve won until we email you :)
We know it’s small, but we hope it’s the thought that counts. And as a final thought to the winner, don’t forget that a petrol card is the perfect way to pay the driver of the next rideshare you take…
Enjoy!

No mention of carpooling (shame), but take a look at this fun article from The Good Oil in the NZ Herald - http://tinyurl.com/r86f53

Enough said.
Another fantastic step forward may soon be pushed into law in the US.
The ”cash-for-guzzlers” bill proposed by lawmakers would see vouchers of up to US$4500 ($7600) offered to people who trade in their old SUV guzzlers for new, more fuel-efficient vehicles… We love it.

Today we fixed the infamous tomorrow-bug.
This little glitch caused some rideshares to immediately expire as soon as the were listed. Today we found the cause and fixed it.
Jayride is now free of all reported bugs! We’re pretty excited about that :)
